Barnes Bridge is a
small park across it's namesake from the power plant that dumps it's steam
in Fireant cove inside the jetty. It is in Garland just south of I-30
off Zion Rd and we go there only when it's blowing from the northwest.
Warning:None
- Barnes has a steep slippery launch in rough weather but the landing
downwind is really freindly, shallow and easy to see coming.
Barnes is hurricane
central for Dallas. When Katrina and Rita blew through there were 6 kites
out in winds gusting over 40 and 1 ten foot surfboard out in 4 foot shore
break from the NW fetch.
This
is a good place to launch and land alone without assitance from a local
because if there is no one sitting on the shore downwind you can drop
your kite on the safety. If there is someone you ask them to move for
a couple minutes and they will usually be happy to watch from a distance.
Drifting down to the Last Resort landing and dropping your kite anywhere
along the shore to the SW works great. There is a path along the shore
that you can use to walk back up to the launch pretty easilly.
